Gemma is a Sunshine Coast local growing up in Yaroomba, after completing her veterinary degree in Melbourne she has returned to the coast. It was the completion of her veterinary nursing qualification, working in a general practice clinic and encouragement from her then and now veterinary director that spurred her on to make the jump into university and a veterinary degree.
Gemma graduated with a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Melbourne in 2022. She was awarded top of her class and received the Kate Gordon-Addison Medical Prize. Prior to this she studied a Bachelor of Animal and Veterinary Science at La Trobe University (Melbourne). Whilst studying she continued to nurse moving into emergency and critical care at some of Melbourne’s largest 24hr veterinary hospitals. Now, Gemma feels right at home in the fast-paced emergency environment. She has taken on the role of Emergency Intern to advance her skill set prior to completing memberships. Gemma’s veterinary interests are soft tissue surgery and pain management, specifically chronic pain, an area she has completed research in. In her spare time, you’ll find Gemma outdoors, mostly at the beach with her Border Collie, Opie.
